Radio Saltire started in August 2011 when a group of enthusiasts got together to discuss the possibility of creating an online radio station to serve the people of East Lothian. Broadcasting commenced on 10th October 2011.

Since then we have been broadcasting 24/7 and our listening audience has continued to grow throughout East Lothian.
In 2013, we consolidated our position as one of Scotland’s leading online community radio stations with a move to new studios in Tranent, in the heart of East Lothian.
From 2nd December 2018, Radio Saltire has also been broadcasting on FM – this means the station is available in ways that are most convenient for everybody. In addition to listening online you can listen in your car, at home, on your mobile, on your smart device – whatever works best for you.

The ‘Saltire’, Scotland’s national flag, is reputed to have been created in the village of Athelstaneford in East Lothian, during a battle which took place in the 9th Century, following the chance crossing of white clouds over a blue sky. We felt that this world famous icon was an ideal name for what is fast becoming East Lothians favourite community radio station.
